Mao said regarding Robinson\u2019s award: <em>\u201cAs a singer, songwriter, producer, and record executive, Smokey Robinson is a musical legend. His rich melodies are works of art \u2014 enduring, meaningful,\u00a0and powerful. And he is a master at crafting lyrics that speak to the heart and soul, expressing ordinary themes in an extraordinary way. It is that quality in his music that makes him one of the greatest poetic songwriters of our time.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4412\" src=\"http:\/\/main.lunartheme.com\/stevecadey\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/iStock_000057095342_Double.jpg\" alt=\"iStock_000057095342_Double\" width=\"3284\" height=\"4924\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Robinson said in a statement: <em>\u201cIt gives me such joy and gratitude to be included among the past recipients of this most prestigious songwriting award.\u201d<\/em> Robinson will receive the award in the nation\u2019s capital Washington D.C. in November.<\/p>\n<p>Robinson came to the public\u2019s attention in the \u201960s with his group The Miracles.
