Despite the long hiatus, not much has changed about the group\u2019s sound: The new album highlights Sandoval\u2019s wistful, melancholic vocals and Roback\u2019s shoegazy guitars.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4438 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/main.lunartheme.com\/stevecadey\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/iStock_000090448783_Double-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"iStock_000090448783_Double\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Nothing here is as catchy as the group\u2019s 1993 hit <strong>\u201cFade Into You,\u201d<\/strong> but Mazzy Star was never about churning out the hits. And on <em><strong>\u201cSeasons of Your Day\u201d<\/strong><\/em>, the duo picks up where it left off: creating moody, atmospheric music. Album opener <em><strong>\u201cIn the Kingdom\u201d<\/strong><\/em> picks up with a sultry organ melody and Sandoval\u2019s dreamy vocals, which elevate mundane moments \u2014 taking a train, walking outside \u2014 to watercolor movie scenes.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the album follows suit. <em>\u201c<strong>I\u2019ve Gotta Stop\u201d<\/strong><\/em> conveys an ache both from Sandoval\u2019s voice and Roback\u2019s guitar tone, and the duo embraces sparse silences on the expansive <em><strong>\u201cDoes Someone Have Your Baby Now?\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>Sometimes, however, things get a little too dreamy.\u00a0But even a few shapeless tracks can\u2019t detract from the overall mood. \u201c<strong><em>Seasons of Your Day<\/em><\/strong>\u201d holds up beautifully next to Mazzy Star\u2019s three previous albums.<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0&#8211;<strong>\u00a0Catherine P.
